About This Game
Word searches train visual scanning and target detection rather than vocabulary, since you already know the words. The work is in systematic search, which is why fatigue rather than difficulty is usually what ends a puzzle.
Puzzles of this kind sit within a broader association with cognitive performance. The PROTECT study run by the University of Exeter and King's College London assessed 19,078 adults aged 50 and over and linked more frequent word puzzle use to better attention scores. The relationship is correlational.
Finding every word without hints is the goal. Under a minute per word is a comfortable pace on a standard grid.
The tip most people miss: search for one letter, not the whole word. Trying to spot the shape of a complete word means scanning for something long and variable. Instead take the least common letter in your target, often J, Q, X, Z or a doubled letter, and sweep the grid for that single character. Each hit gives you a small number of places to check properly. It turns a vague hunt into a short checklist.
How to Play
Click or tap a letter, then drag to the end of the word. The word will highlight when you form a valid match. Words can go left, right, up, down or diagonally in any direction.
Tips
Start by scanning the grid for the first letter of each word. Diagonal words are often the hardest to spot, so check those last. On mobile, press and drag smoothly from start to end.
About Word Search
Each puzzle places 8 to 10 words in a 12x12 grid filled with random letters. A new puzzle generates every time you click "New Puzzle" or change the theme.
