About This Game

Hangman trains letter frequency reasoning and probabilistic guessing under a hard failure limit. Each guess is a bet, and the skill lies in choosing the letter that eliminates the most possibilities rather than the letter that feels likely.

Word games of this kind feature in cognitive ageing research. In the PROTECT study, run by the University of Exeter with King's College London across 19,078 adults aged 50 and over, more frequent word puzzle use was associated with stronger performance on attention and reasoning tasks. The finding is observational.

Winning most rounds with two or more guesses to spare is a solid standard.

The tip most people miss: guess vowels by position, not all at once. Beginners burn their early guesses on A, E, I, O and U in sequence, which reveals shape but spends half the allowance before any consonant is tested. Once you have E and A, switch immediately to R, S, T, L and N. Those five consonants appear in more English words than the remaining three vowels combined, and they are what actually let you read the word.

How to Play

Click a letter or press a key on your keyboard to guess. Correct letters appear in the word slots. Each wrong guess drains the rocket's fuel. Run out of fuel and the mission fails.

Tips

Start with common letters: E, A, R, I, O, T, N and S. The category label at the top is your clue. Look at the word length for further hints.
